• Just a quick note…

I just discovered that this site’s 10th birthday was on May 7th. That’s insane to me.
Also, there might be a problem with Sandra’s baby, so, whatever you do to try to ward off bad things, please start doing it for her.

  • In the desert, full of bullets, let your body rot.

I wasn’t going to post anything about this, since it’s pretty embarrassing, but… Screw it.
I apparently got robbed on Saturday. I say apparently because I don’t remember what happened. One minute I’m at a bar on Granby, the next, it’s 4:30am and I’m waking up on some concrete steps in the rear of Nauticus, all […]

  • Oh, and Rumplo is awesome.

One other thing. I was really impressed with Rumplo tonight. Last night I wanted to integrate the “Favorites” RSS feed into my lifestream, since I use their service to bookmark t-shirts I want to buy pretty often. Unfortunately, the RSS feed was missing a key piece of data: the date that the shirt was favorited.
    I […]

  • Constructing an orientation-aware portal page for the LG Dare

As some of you know, I bought the LG Dare a couple of weeks ago. Aside from the lack of Bitpim support (so far, anyway), I'm very happy with the phone. Yes, it's trying hard to be an iPhone, but for those of us that don't feel like paying exorbitant fees to get out of [...]

  • today

somewhat eventful. another plane crashed in NYC but they don't know if it was an attack or an accident. i also suspect some things may change greatly in the coming days....
i started reading a book i bought a while ago called the wasp factory. so far i'm liking it. as books usually do, it is [...]

  • ahh this sux

so i've been working on this web app for like 2 or 3 months now, and it's almost ready to use, and today i discover that they didn't exactly share all the info with me. there turns out to be about 1000 more accounts in the db i will need to anticipate. blarg. i have [...]

  • tonight’s round of fixes

fixed the random quote thing to only return quotes less than 95 characters.. fixed the entry display function so that it will break encrypted posts to fit in the table constraints. i'm about to tweak the form element styles. sheesh. i coulda been playing max payne. damn you floris.

  • for future reference

IE 5.5 allows 95 characters in the title tag, Netscape 4.7 allows 100, and Opera 5 allows as many as the current screen resolution can display (as far as i have seen anyway)

  • encryption

new feature: you can encrypt your posts with a unique key of any combination of letters or numbers (no spaces or special characters, ie: commas, colons, @ signs, etc)
i don't know if i am going to include the same feature for comments. as usual, try to break it, and let me know about any bugs [...]

  • ya know

it just struck me how much this thing has changed. originally it was supposed to be a journal, and was for a while. damn my family for screwing that up. i think i'll rewrite the site using perl, and include a lock function to make certain posts private... hmmm...

  • new feature

i've added a random quote to the title. the only problem with it is the sheer length. it often cuts the quote off.. i may put it somewhere else. any suggestions?

  • site upgrades

i'm working on the login system and the search function. instead of being presented with a welcome screen after logging in, it's just going to bring you back to the main page. when you log out, it will do the same. the search function will be extended to the comments, but i don't know whether [...]

  • this is going away

awwwwwwwww. oh well we had a good run. as soon as i can come up with a good image to put here, it's bye bye birdie. i'm thinking i may whip up something to allow comments tho.

  • floris has lost his mind

i can hear my bandwidth dropping bit by bit. hehe it's ok i've got what, 12 gigs a month, so i don't think we'll be running out... i think the most i ever used was 2-300 megs when i was doing heavy dev on the site and uploading pics alot..
by the by, the webcam pic [...]

  • site update

been changing things around, and working on different things, but i think it's coming along nicely. the only thing i have left that i really want to implement is having the calendar show what days have posts.. and have that in an iframe for ie, regular for the rest. eh.

  • test from work

changed some cookie config stuff to assign dynamic hosts, since they seem to have blocked access to jrsmith.net here at work. so far so good :)

  • new design

i couldn't sleep, so i just redid the site again in like 2 hours. there are prolly bugs, but i'm sleepy now so i'll fix them tomorrow.

  • site update

well the new design is up, for the most part. still tweaking a little. when it's done i'll be posting a nice recap of what's been going on over the past week or so. also, be sure to check out the webcam section. i bought a sweet new cam, and am making full use of [...]

  • Bleh

i'm working on a redesign of both the layout and engine for this log. you'll notice i've reduced it to text, no formatting or anything. the new engine will include a few new functions and some old ones will be gone.. also my artwork and web work will be integrated. i'll be writing this myself, [...]

  • ho hum

Well it's been 2 weeks since bobbi left and she hasn't been online.. she said she wouldn't be getting on very often when she goes back to school but i didn't think that meant never again.. oh well
life has been pretty uneventful.. hung out with cj and joanna last night, my mom's birthday was friday, [...]
