- Constructing an orientation-aware portal page for the LG Dare
As some of you know, I bought the LG Dare a couple of weeks ago. Aside from the lack of Bitpim support (so far, anyway), I'm very happy with the phone. Yes, it's trying hard to be an iPhone, but for those of us that don't feel like paying exorbitant fees to get out of [...]

I had the weirdest dream last night:

I came home, presumably from work, and one of my windows was slightly open, and the blinds were all fucked up. Obviously, someone had broken in. I ran inside and looked around... TV, game consoles, even my coffee table was gone. I went into the kitchen and noticed that [...] - Geek stuff - SQL Server support in web.py
web.py is a python web framework. It makes developing database-driven web applications pretty easy and straightforward. I've been experimenting with these lately in an effort to broaden my horizons beyond the worlds of perl and php.

I ran into a bit of trouble with it, though. Out of the box, it does not support sql server. [...] - today
somewhat eventful. another plane crashed in NYC but they don't know if it was an attack or an accident. i also suspect some things may change greatly in the coming days....

i started reading a book i bought a while ago called the wasp factory. so far i'm liking it. as books usually do, it is [...] - friday blues
so it's friday, my raise kicked in this week (and was retroactive, i think) and what are my plan for the weekend? typical geek stuff. i'm going to reinstall AGAIN, aiming for a 4x boot setup: xp, 2000, linux (red hat 7) and 98 yuck. i may also redo the site, or at least try [...]

so i've been working on this web app for like 2 or 3 months now, and it's almost ready to use, and today i discover that they didn't exactly share all the info with me. there turns out to be about 1000 more accounts in the db i will need to anticipate. blarg. i have [...]

fixed the random quote thing to only return quotes less than 95 characters.. fixed the entry display function so that it will break encrypted posts to fit in the table constraints. i'm about to tweak the form element styles. sheesh. i coulda been playing max payne. damn you floris.

IE 5.5 allows 95 characters in the title tag, Netscape 4.7 allows 100, and Opera 5 allows as many as the current screen resolution can display (as far as i have seen anyway)

new feature: you can encrypt your posts with a unique key of any combination of letters or numbers (no spaces or special characters, ie: commas, colons, @ signs, etc)

i don't know if i am going to include the same feature for comments. as usual, try to break it, and let me know about any bugs [...] - ya know
it just struck me how much this thing has changed. originally it was supposed to be a journal, and was for a while. damn my family for screwing that up. i think i'll rewrite the site using perl, and include a lock function to make certain posts private... hmmm...

i've added a random quote to the title. the only problem with it is the sheer length. it often cuts the quote off.. i may put it somewhere else. any suggestions?

i'm working on the login system and the search function. instead of being presented with a welcome screen after logging in, it's just going to bring you back to the main page. when you log out, it will do the same. the search function will be extended to the comments, but i don't know whether [...]

been changing things around, and working on different things, but i think it's coming along nicely. the only thing i have left that i really want to implement is having the calendar show what days have posts.. and have that in an iframe for ie, regular for the rest. eh.

changed some cookie config stuff to assign dynamic hosts, since they seem to have blocked access to jrsmith.net here at work. so far so good :)
